What's that you say?

Here's how you say panda in its native language of Chinese:

大熊貓; Hanyu Pinyin: dàxióngmāo; Tongyong Pinyin: dàsyóngmao; Wade-Giles: ta⁴hsiung²mao¹

Hot or Cold?

Just in case you were curious, someone claims that a panda's body temperature is 102 degrees Farenheit.

Baby Panda Playing

Wow.

This video is not as instantly gratifying as the previous ones I have posted, but seeing that panda roll over and then try and get back up is pretty amazing.

Red Pandas

I think too often people forget that there are two different types of pandas out there

1) Giant pandas are the great, big, black and white pandas we all know and love

2) Red pandas (or often called lesser pandas) are small, red and black and kinda look like raccoons. Sometimes I think I like them more. Sometimes I think I like them less. Either way, I know I had a stuffed animal of each when I was younger.

Are Pandas Too Loud?

While discussing sneezing baby pandas with some coworkers, someone said that baby pandas will often make loud noises and scare their parents away forever. I found that hard to believe and decided to do a little research. I couldn't find anything to support his claim but did find some information that could have led to his mis-belief.

According to the San Diego Zoo, young pandas do make croaking and squealing sounds. Mature pandas, however, will make bleating sounds similar to a goat.

Also, in the wild, pandas often have twins but usually only take care of one of the young. The other is left to fend for itself.

Are you saying you wouldn't want to look after that?

If you have any more info on the subject, let me know.

What do you expect from GuGu?

In complete contrast to the previous post, it seems that GuGu, a panda kept in captivity at the Beijing Zoo, attacked someone just about one week ago. Read the full details here:

New York Daily News

That's GuGu above.

I don't know. That police officer looks scarier.

Sneezing Panda

This first one I'm sure you've all seen. Baby pandas are one of the most interesting looking and sounding creatures, I think, and this one just blows me away...and his mother, apparently, too.

Wait, let's watch that in slow motion, please.

You can really see the look of horror and terror in the mother's face. That video gets a little ridiculous towards the end, but it's worth it for the attention to detail.

This sneeze is a little less scary but no less comical.

I wonder if animals like being laughed at.
